Biker Civics 101...

February 2006

AHA! Turn the Lights On and See the A.H.A.S. Scurry

The AHAS just released it's annual "Roadmap to State Safety Laws" propaganda piece for 2006, and as always, it's laden with misinformation, super fuzzy math and unattributable B.S. with a general disregard for tangible facts. It's really quite similar to the reports I used to write in 4th grade english class, when I could barely spell the big words and I knew just enough about the world to be dangerous. The AHAS style is incredibly juvenile and amazingly similar, except they get a bigger allowance for milk money, and you probably helped pay for it.

WHO IS AHAS? The Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety.

Since nobody has done it yet, I'm going to submit this new definition to www.wikipedia.com to help folks understand what AHAS really is.....
AHAS: The insurance industry sponsored nanny-crats hell-bent on taking away ANY of your "essential liberties" in the self serving interest of their corporate profit. They only LIE about caring...the organization is actually filled with "Do-Gooders with a Manson Stare" backed by big insurance company money. AHAS actually trolls through hospital emergency rooms looking for crash victims to help "put a face on an issue to try to protect others from the pain and loss that they have had to endure." Yeah right, uh huh. "Loss" meaning, if it'll help save insurance company shareholder's money in the long run. I'm sure they even play monetary good-cop bad-cop with the victim's injury claim while they use that victim's wheelchair in senate testimony. Aren't vultures on the endangered species list?

AHAS is the perfect blend of innocent naive individuals thinkin' they can contribute something to change the world while blindly doing the work of evil diabolical minds who hide behind the green curtain and scurry about when the flashlights come on. Their key goal? To legislate that you only be allowed to make consecutive right turns while driving your vehicle, in a continuous loop around your neighborhood, no passing, no parking, seat belt around your throat, GPS & black box in the engine to tattle, a stop sign at each corner, just around the block and back home for you, where it's safe! At least, for your underwriter's pension plan. (Don't worry, they'll fire him a month before retirement anyway, that's what snakes do.)

In most mental facilities, we could simply issue a blue shirt with a big Superman "S" on it to stymie their delusions of grandeur. Unfortunately, in this country, without major financial repercussions, these cockroaches are just as bad as Al Qaeda at bringing America to it's knees, and throwing us all back into the dark ages. Remember, Afghanistan was the only country ever to be bombed OUT of the stone age. I don't think any exterminator has a circus tent big enough to adequately eradicate all the vermin lobbying up on capitol hill, so I have devised an alternate plan.

THE PLAN: I suggest we begin fundraising NOW to charter a cruise ship to Cuba. We'll print up nice 4 color glossy flyers stating, FREE CRUISE to the AHAS Conference in HAVANA, 2007. Mug it up with Fidel, a true compatriot! Get a FREE Che t-shirt if you pre-register before April 15th! Once we get the ego-sponges on the boat, I can't decide on the better plan; dropping them off in a REAL communist country...or simply sinking the ship with a nice slow leak. Does anyone know the best time of year for great white shark migration thru there? Are there any missile test ranges nearby? Isn't the Devil's Triangle near there? Ah! Gitmo!

Your suggestions requested. I think I'll put up a webpage for YOUR ideas on how to treat the AHAS zombies that love us so much they wanna strap us into our strato-loungers to rot at home. No risk. No claims. If we don't stop 'em, they'll buy off everybody. They already have, bought and paid for with YOUR (mandated) insurance premium. The problem is, they haven't managed to tinkle on the right electric fence just yet. Til now. Does anybody know if bi-partisan lobbyist Jack Abramoff did any work for these slimeballs? I see Senator Harry Reid called this the "most corrupt congress ever", yet records show he got $68,941 bucks from "somebody" close to Abramoff, I'm sure we'll soon find out that Harry's got a piece of the AHAS action too cos I'm startin' to dig.

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.
~Benjamin Franklin

The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either.
~Benjamin Franklin

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Roadmap to State Highway Safety Laws, Players, Politics and Progress. January 2006 http://www.saferoads.org/Roadmap2006.pdf
30 States Need All-Rider Helmet Laws

In 2004, 4,008 motorcycle riders were killed, an eight percent increase from 2003 and a staggering 89 percent increase since 1997. (Hmmm, this during 12 straight years of RECORD sales) Today, only 20 states and the District of Columbia (DC) require all motorcycle riders to wear a helmet. 27 states have laws that cover only some riders (i.e., up to age 18 or 21)—these types of laws are nearly impossible to enforce and the result is much lower helmet use. Three states (CO, IL and IA) have no motorcycle helmet use law. Helmet use is close to 100 percent in states with all-rider motorcycle helmet laws, compared to 34 to 53 percent in those states with no helmet laws or with age-specific helmet laws. All-rider laws significantly increase helmet use because the law is much easier to enforce than age-specific laws. (Idea being, take EVERYBODY's rights, it's OK, you're opinion doesn't count because you're not well funded) It is virtually impossible for an officer to ascertain an unhelmeted motorcyclist’s age. (In the Phillipines, bank robbers LOVE their helmets) According to NHTSA, an estimated $13.2 billion was saved from 1984 to 1999 because of motorcycle helmet use. (How could they 'assume' that, when they show 7 states as having ZERO motorcycle miles traveled from 1997-2003? 13 other states have mis-match data for that period) An additional $11.1 billion could have been saved if all motorcyclists had worn helmets. It is estimated that nearly 50 percent of motorcycle riders do not have private health insurance. (And what's the figure for the general public?) The Maryland Department of Legislative Services estimated that a repeal of its current all-rider helmet law would result in an increase in state Medicaid expenditures. (The world used to be flat, too) In 1992, California’s all-rider law went into effect resulting in a 40 percent drop in its Medicaid costs and total hospital charges for treatment of motorcycle riders. (Unsubstantiated, fraudulent claim, prove it! Where's the study?) A 2004 Lou Harris Poll showed that eight of ten people believe their state should have an all-rider helmet law. (Lou Harris never called ME and probably didn't call you either. Maybe he should ask those who actually ride?) In 2004, Louisiana voted to reinstate its all-rider helmet law after seeing a 100 percent increase in motorcycle fatalities and a 50 percent drop in helmet usage since repealing its all-rider law in 1999. (They make no mention of the huge boost in sales, or how LA had more motorcycles registered than people licensed to drive 'em, do they?)

Advocates’ Recommendation: States should require that all motorcycle riders wear helmets that are U.S. DOT certified, with no exceptions.

Hmmmm. Wear a helmet as opposed to actually learning how to RIDE the bike? It's that easy? Interesting idea. You don't even need a training course or a license! Let the helmet do the riding for you!

As an aside, in 2003, AHAS papered Washington DC with anti motorcycling rhetoric as motorcyclists asked lawmakers to consider the Murkowski Motorcycle Awareness Amendment, which satisfied many recommendations of the National Agenda for Motorcycle Safety (NAMS), sponsored BY motorcycle riders, FOR motorcycle riders. AHAS claimed that rider education/motorist awareness "wastes federal taxpayer funds." AHAS further stated, "Motorcycle training programs have not been proven to be effective in reducing motorcycle crashes." The president of the Motorcycle "Safety" Foundation (M$F), Tim Buche, sided with AHAS and stabbed us in the back on NAMS too, during debate for the Murkowski Motorcycle Awareness Amendment, but we already know where his blood money comes from. Money corrupts, absolutely.

Senator Frank Lautenburg, who tried to pull a nationwide helmet law last year, yes, you read that right, was recently honored by AHAS with their Safety Leader Award.

*NOTE. AHAS has a chart showing deaths per 10,000 accidents. However, they don't show the INCREASE in ridership, because they're liars trying to hide behind skewed statistics. Um, hey, AHAS....YOU ARE NOW ON NOTICE....PLEASE show a chart showing the increase in ridership when people are given the option to choose for themselves, whether to wear a lid or not. Every moron knows there are more accidents on big holiday travel weekends. Why? Because there are more people on the road, duh. More people on the road translates into more mathematical probability that an accident will occur, regardless of how many precautions one may take. Duh. Neutrons in an excited state tend to bounce off one another.

AHAS seems so proud of their "All-Rider Motorcycle Helmet Law" claim for California on page 49. However, has anyone bothered to tell them that the CHP stats show there are actually MORE deaths now, WITH a lid law, than there were in 1991, WITHOUT a lid law? Again, they need to be put on notice for false and misleading info spewed in the interest of saving themselves money at the expense of your liberty.

I swear! The lengths some people will go to, to lie and distort the truth for their own personal economic gain at the expense of the liberty my Grandpa fought and bled for. The cruise ship idea doesn't seem so silly now, does it?
~splatt

P.S. INFILTRATE. If you want to know how cockroaches survive, you hang out in the cabinets. If you're bored and need a good giggle, JOIN the AHAS! At least I think I just did, they aren't too clear about it, but I have an account now, whatever that means! Keep your friends close, your enemies closer. http://www.saferoads.org/sec_vocus.php

The AHAS Board of Directors
A virtual Who's Who of Capitalism Promulgated Through Communist Methodologies. I think I've seen EACH of these groups lobbying against freedom in one state or another. Now, I've put the puzzle pieces together to give you a not so pretty picture....

President Judith Lee Stone, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety

There ya go! Now you can "put a face on the issue." Unlike Buche, I've actually found a picture of this, umm, Stalinist. Can somebody please pull a salary report on her for me? It's one thing to rape my freedom and accept no fee, simply because you're a sado-masochist, I can understand that. But to rob us of our freedoms for profit is, I believe, a traitorous act. It is not your job to save me from myself, and then pull down six figures for it. That's unconscienable. Has anyone checked lately to see if the First Amendment is still intact? Because like Buche, she's sure to dispatch a *legal counsel death squad after me, as all good Saddam types do. It's usually a deep rooted inferiority complex that drives the megalomaniac. ABC has an Extreme Makeover program...I think we've just found a suitable candidate for their next segment. Write and tell 'em; http://abc.go.com/primetime/ExtremeMakeover/application.html

(Please let me know if ANY of the aforementioned have lobbied against common sense motorcycle legislation in your state. I am compiling a "Biker Boycott" list...and I'd be more than happy to make additions, but I need specifics. i.e: time. place. bill #. name of lobbyist, etc. Credible and verifiable info only, or I won't list 'em)
